How This Book Title Generator Works

Each title is built from a sentence pattern and a word list for the genre. There are 14 patterns, listed in full below, and six genres: fantasy, science fiction, mystery and thriller, romance, horror and literary fiction. Each genre has its own lists of 18 nouns, 12 adjectives, 8 places, 8 plural nouns and 6 verbs, written by hand so a horror title sounds like horror and a romance title sounds like romance.

Every click gives you eight titles with no repeats. No AI writes them, and your results never leave your browser.

How to Use It

  1. Pick a genre, or leave it on Any genre.
  2. Click Generate Book Titles. Eight new titles replace the old ones.
  3. Copy the list. Copy Titles gives you all eight as plain text, one per line, ready to paste into your notes.

Book Title Examples by Genre

Two titles per genre, copied exactly as the generator made them.

Fantasy: A Rune of Embers and Bones, A Gilded Kind of Crown

The 14 Title Patterns

These are all the patterns the generator uses. In each one, the words in braces are filled from the genre's lists: n is a noun, pl a plural noun, a an adjective, p a place and v a verb. The example next to each is a real output.

PatternExample
The {n} of {p}The Spellbook of Ashfall
{a} {n}Silent Star
The {a} {n}The Innocent Secret
The Last {n}The Last Heart
A {n} of {pl} and {pl2}A Grave of Teeth and Shadows

Where the {pl} {v}Where the Embers Wake
The {n}'s {n2}The Frontier's Code

If you like the shape of a title but not the words, keep the pattern and write your own words into it. That is often how a generated title turns into the real one.

Book Title Generator FAQ

Can I use a generated title for my book?

Yes, and you don't need to credit this site. In the US, titles can't be copyrighted (U.S. Copyright Office, Circular 33), but a title or series name can sometimes be protected as a trademark. Check that no well-known book in your genre already uses it.

Is a book name generator the same as a title generator?

Yes. Book name generator, book title generator and story title generator are three names for the same thing: a tool that suggests titles for your book or story.

How do I check if a title is already taken?

Search the exact title in quotes on a search engine and on the big online bookstores. If a book in the same genre already uses it, pick another. A title used in a different genre years ago is less of a problem.
