A scribe who copies forbidden spellbooks wants to expose a lie that everyone believes, but success means hurting someone innocent. Setting: a castle where every door opens somewhere different. It all starts when the kingdom's protective wards fall overnight. Twist: The true heir is the least likely person in the room. If they fail, everything they gave up was for nothing.

What Is a Plot Generator?
A plot generator gives you the bones of a story so you can start writing. This one builds each plot from seven parts: a main character, a goal, a conflict, a setting, the moment it all starts, a twist, and what happens if they fail.
Each part is drawn at random from lists written by hand for that genre. A fantasy plot can hand you a dragon-bone smuggler in a city built on the back of a sleeping giant. A mystery plot might give you a hotel night manager and an anonymous letter that confesses to a twenty-year-old crime. No AI writes any of it, and your plot never leaves your browser. Your browser does the shuffling.
How to Use the Plot Generator
- Pick a genre. Fantasy, sci-fi, mystery, romance, horror, thriller, historical, literary, or any.
- Generate a plot. You get seven parts and a one-paragraph summary.
- Lock and reroll. Keep the parts you like. Click again and only the rest changes.
Story Plot Generator Examples
Two plots, copied exactly as the generator made them.
Fantasy: The youngest heir of a fallen house wants to pay off a debt that keeps growing, but a powerful family will do anything to bury the truth. Setting: a city built on the back of a sleeping giant. It all starts when the royal seal turns up in their pocket. Twist: The person giving orders died months ago. If they fail, they lose the only home they've known.
Mystery: A hotel night manager wants to keep their crew together, but someone they trust is working against them. Setting: a quiet suburb with a very active neighborhood group chat. It all starts when an anonymous letter confesses to a twenty-year-old crime. Twist: They caused the very problem they're trying to fix. If they fail, the truth stays buried forever.
Neither one is a finished story. In the second, the twist only works if the night manager doesn't know what they did. Working out how is where your outline starts.

Plot Generator FAQ
Is this plot generator free?
Yes. Every generator here is free, with no signup and no limit on rerolls.
Does it use AI?
No. Every part comes from lists written by hand, and your browser shuffles them. An AI Outline add-on is planned but not live, and the plot generator itself doesn't call any AI.
How many different plots can it make?
More than 700 million per genre. The lists combine 12 characters, 30 goals, 30 conflicts, 10 settings, 10 openings, 36 twists and 20 stakes.
Can I use a generated plot in my own book?
Yes. Use it, change it, and publish what you write. You don't need to credit this site.
Why doesn't the twist always fit?
The parts are random, so some combinations clash. Lock what works and reroll the twist, or treat the clash as a question your story has to answer.
How is this different from an AI story generator?
An AI story generator writes prose for you. This one only gives you the premise, so the story and the words stay yours. If you want a full draft, an AI writer is the better tool.
